Uganda has scheduled and non- scheduled fly –in gorilla trekking trips that land in Kihihi and Kayonza airstrips. The scheduled flights are highly competed for and cheaper. Bwindi National park is about 550km from Kampala and about 590 km from Entebbe Airport. This is quite along journey which you cannot travel in just one day or night and arrive ready for tracking gorillas at 8:00am. For this reason, you need to book accommodation for your gorilla trekking trip.
Bwindi National park is divided into two sectors that is to say the southern and the Northern sector and these are fur apart from each other. You need to book accommodation close to the gorilla trekking group you are booked to. This reduces on the distance you need to travel for briefing and the time you have to rise up on the day of tracking gorillas.
The most renowned activity in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is gorilla trekking but however at times you may see the gorillas in just 2 hours and get back to the lodge. In Bwindi National park, you may visit the Batwa community which is composed of some of the survivors of the 1991 Bwindi eviction. In this park, you may take park in activities like game drives, launch cruising, chimpanzee tracking, visit the ancient Katwe salty lake and several other. A number of animals are residents of this park like the tree climbing lions in Ishasha sector, Leopards, herds of elephants, buffaloes, water bucks, bush bucks, hyenas, view the scenic wet and dry crater lakes to mention but a few.
Kibale National park is another optional Park you may visit after your gorilla trekking holiday. The drive from Bwindi National Park to Kibale National park is about 5-6 hours in a distance of about 300km on a normal day. However this is a not advisable to drive on the same day of tracking because you need to have booked accommodation prior to your decision. Chimpanzee tracking is the commonest activity in this park. There are high chances of seeing chimpanzees in this park than any other in Uganda.
