Bwindi impenetrable National Park

Bwindi forest is a pristine rain forest part of the wider Virunga area home to almost half the population of the mountain gorillas living in the entire world. Because of the vast size of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park it is currently divided into four areas that is Buhoma, Ruhija, Rushaga and Nkuringo.

 

All gorilla trekking permits for Bwindi are booked according to the four administrative areas even though each area has different gorilla trekking families.

How To Get To Bwindi Impenetrable National Park From Queen Elizabeth National Park

Road transport is the main means to get to Bwindi impenetrable National Park from Queen Elizabeth National Park via Ishasha sector in the southern part of the park

The distance from Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi forest is 64 kilometres (from Ishasha) and 160 kilometres from Mweya.

DAY 1 – Drive to Queen Elizabeth national Park


Get ready early in the morning for a drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park. This drive may take between 5 hours to 6 hours but you may have a stopover at the equator to take photographs, perform the breathtaking water experiment.

Carry on until you enter the park, enjoy the game that you meet as you enter the park.

Queen Elizabeth National Park is one of the unique and well endowed Safari destinations in Africa sitting on the floor of the rift valley. By taking a game drive on the different tracks in Queen Elizabeth National Park you may come across animals like leopards, herds of elephants, herds of buffaloes, waterbucks, bushbucks and others.

The Mountain Rwenzori backdrop features beautifully as the land stretches from the lowland to form the ranges that seem to be reachable from an arm stretch.

DAY 2 – Game drive And Boat Cruise In Queen Elizabeth National Park


Rise up early to get ready for a game drive on the tracks of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Taking the Kasenyi track is rewarding with chances of spotting lions preying on the Uganda Kobs that are regular vistors to this savannah grassland area of the park.

Drive through the Crater Lakes area with over 27 both wet and dry craters including the nasty Lake Nyamunuka with a putrid odour.

Continue with the game drive where you may have the chance to spot animals like water bucks, warthogs, elands, lions, leopards, elephants, the list is endless. Keek birders have chance of identifying some of the 605 bird species like Egyptian geese, king fisher, skimmers and more that flock Queen Elizabeth National Park

Later head to the pier for a boat cruise on Kazinga channel the prime game viewing spot of Queen Elizabeth National Park. DAY 3 – Transfer to Bwindi Forest National Park


After breakfast, you transfer to Bwindi forest National Park the home of the few leftover mountain gorillas in the world.

As you get to your park exist, enjoy a game drive and if passing via Ishasha sector in the south, you may get that chance to spot tree climbing lions, topis and other. A tour of the Edward flats may be an opportunity to cape buffaloes and more.

The route via Ishasha sectors is at time antagonised by weather changes that at times damaging the bridge. There is an alternative route our of Queen Elizabeth National Park to Bwindi keep updated with the information from the park.

DAY 4 – Gorilla Trekking In Uganda


As you rise up for breakfast, ensure you have packed your gorilla trekking gears like the cameras, a hat or cap, rain proof gear and others. Do not forget your packed lunch because the time taken while searching for the mountain gorillas is not definite. Head to the ranger station for a talk by the Uganda wildlife Authority ranger guide.

Report to the ranger station of the area where your gorilla permit is booked for document verification and briefing. Rules of gorilla trekking and latest update on the status of mountain gorillas is communicated in detail then the ranger guide leads the way via the track leading where the gorillas family was last seen.

Watch out for other Bwindi forest dwellers like olive baboons, black and white colobus, grey cheeked mangabey and more. Keen birder have the double opportunity of spotting more than 100 bird species during gorilla trekking especially in Ruhija area which is the key birding area of the park.

When you finally get to meet them, maintain the 8 meters gap recommended as you haves an hour allowed for gorilla trekking. Enjoy the presence of the mountain gorillas as they take charge of the event in the forest like grooming, playing, feeding, napping, procreation and more.

DAY 5 – Drive to Kampala


Having taken your breakfast, drive back to Kampala to rest after full filling your dream safari with the mountain gorillas. This drive may take between 8 to 9 hours but very scenic and incredibly memorable.

DAY 6 – Kampala City tour


Do not leave Uganda without having a tour in the capital Kampala the main business centre of the country . Having taken your breakfast, you will be transferred to Namugongo martyrs shrine where innocent brave young men shed their blood to defend there religious values.

Carry on later to the Uganda museum where Uganda’s ancient and historical items are reserved. Continue to the Bahai temple which is a centre for all religions and the only one of this kind in Africa.

Visit the Kasubi tombs which were are the burial ground for the fallen kings of Buganda Kingdom but were burnt to ashes by unknown people. These are now under construction but a visit there is not forbidden.
