On the way to gorilla tracking in Bwindi national park, you have the chance to make several stopovers so as to break your journey. The route to Bwindi forest is one of the longest but very interesting as different attractions can be by passed and short stop can also be made.
The Equator
The equator is situated at Kayabwe on Masaka road. You have the chance to make a break here to take some memorable photos while standing on both sides of the earth at the same time. You may also perform the water experiment where you may get to see the water in equilibrium as a result of natural forces. A restaurant for you to take some refreshments is also on site. Several craft shops have been put up at this site and you can also have access to some interesting literature about Uganda.
Mpanga Forest
This natural forest is endowed with numerous primates like the black and white colobus, vervet monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkeys, olive baboons, bush babies and so many others. For keen birders, this is one of the most interesting birding sites in Uganda. Birds like pigeons, parrots, yellow bills, barn owls, true owls, bee –eaters, hornbills, robins, broadbills, larks, mousebirds, nightjars, sunbirds, helmet shrikers, buntings and so many others
Lwera Swamp
As you go passed some of the swamps of Uganda, you cannot miss-out Lwera swamp. This is one of the diverse swamps in Uganda crossed by a huge network of rivers like River Wamala. This wide swamp is home to several birds and you may easily spot the shoe-bill stork which is one of the rare birds in the world, King fisher, crested cranes, egrets, geese, skimmers, hornbills and so many others.
Lake Mburo National Park
This is one of the closest national parks to the city and almost the stopovers of all national parks in the western part of Uganda. The park is home to zebras, impalas, warthogs, buffaloes, elephants, giraffes, water bucks, bush bucks, and so much more. A boat ride on Lake Mburo National park is rewarding as the shores are endowed with a range of birds and amazing vegetation. Visit Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru
This site is situated in Fort portal one of the incredible towns in Uganda. You have the chance of taking a forest walk where you will by-pass interesting waterfalls and get to some of the historical stalactites and stalagmites of Uganda. Kibale Chimpanzee National Park
You have the chance to make a stopover at Kibale National park the home of the biggest number of habituated chimpanzees in Africa.
