Do mountain Gorilla spread Covid-19?
Mountain gorillas are highly protected but humans can easily transmit any virus or infection to these animals. They have about 96% human genes making them susceptible to human infections.
In order to participate in protecting them and yet support the work of conserving, carry at least two masks to use during gorilla trekking. One mask you can wear as you walk to find the gorillas and as you draw closer to wear the other clean one.
Carry a hand sanitizer that is appropriate to your skin and sanitize regularly as you can because you may be prompted to touch the food surfaces of the gorillas. At times to get a clearer path, you need to touch the vines, tree trunks for extra support.
When with the gorillas, at least leave a gap of about 10 meters apart from them so that there is less contact. Sometimes the juveniles may walk over to touch you but try as much as you can to keep the gap without causing any suspicion.
Let’s protect the mountain gorillas from getting infected but continue enjoying them while supporting there conservation for the future.
How long Does Gorilla Trekking In Uganda Take
Gorilla trekking in Uganda may take between 30 minutes to about three quarters of the day. This also depends on the proximity of the food for the gorillas as they have to look for there own meal.
In case the gorillas had a fight with another group, they may move into the deeper ends of Bwindi forest prolonging your time in the forest.
In case the gorilla trekking family given to you moves into the very deep ends of the forest, your group is given a chance to trek another family so that you do not get so tired.
Each day a team of rangers rises up early in the morning before trekkers to search the location of the gorillas following where they were seen the previous day. This helps to reduce on the time tourists take in the forest.
