How To Book A Gorilla Trekking Safari In Uganda or Rwanda

As you prepare to book a gorilla trekking safari in Uganda or Rwanda, you must be aware of the major components of a gorilla tracking tour for you to prepare in advance of travel and avoid regrets on your memorable tour.

Gorilla trekking can only be taken and confirmed as an African tour after securing a gorilla permit in Uganda or Rwanda. Nobody is allowed to see the gorillas without a permit for conservation reasons since only 8 people are allowed to view a particular group each day.

Gorilla tracking in Uganda starts as early as 8am and in Rwanda at about 1 am with briefing from the ranger guide on how to behave while in the presence of the gorillas. Although they are wild creatures, they also have a right while they live in the forest. You must abide by the rules so as to count your trip successful.

Which family can one book for gorilla trekking?

Although Uganda has 10 gorilla trekking families habituated for tourism, they are sold according to the area where they are found.

Bwindi forest National park is the largest home of the mountain gorillas and ahs 4 areas that is to say Buhoma gorilla trek area which is composed of Rushegura gorilla family, Habinyanja gorilla group and Mubare gorilla family, Ruhija gorilla trekking are is made up of Oruzogo and Bitukura gorilla family, Rushaga gorilla trekking area composed of Nshongi gorilla family, Kahungye gorilla family, Busingye and Bweza gorilla family, Nkuringo area is the Nkuringo gorilla family.

Upon buying the gorilla permit, you are only advised which area you are going to take your gorilla trekking trip but not the family you are likely to visit. This assist you to choose which accommodation you are going to book for your gorilla trekking safari days.

In case you have a preferred accommodation you wish to stay at during your gorilla trip, it is best to advise the consultant about this idea so that gorilla permits are booked in this area to avoid driving late at dawn to get to the trekking briefing point.

How to Book accommodation for your gorilla trekking tour

Accommodation on a gorilla trekking safari is booked based on the area where your gorilla permit has been secured. Some areas share the accommodation like Buhoma gorilla area and Ruhija gorilla trekking areas which are about 2 hours apart can share accommodation.

Rushaga and Nkuringo gorilla area also share accommodations which are closer to each other by at least 1 hours so you can stay in one and track gorillas in another.

What must be packed for a gorilla trekking safari?

Gorilla trekking involves moving in the wilderness which is constantly wet and muddy throughout the year. You must park long trousers and shirt, rain jacket, garden gloves, hat, fleshless Camera, water, energy bites to give you energy to carry on. Gorilla trekking although known for being tedious reward you with a lifetime dream that you will live to remember.

The feeling you get when you first look into the eyes of the giant gorillas drives your adrenaline high but when you do not cause any suspicions they get comfortable with you and later enjoy there company. When you have some bites, you are highly recommended not to eat in front of the gorillas because they may grab it and yet it may be harmful to there health.

What is the best time for booking a gorilla trekking permit?

Gorilla tracking permits are booked all year round but to confirm your gorilla trek safari, you must buy your permit in advance of travel because they are easily sold out. Each gorilla family is expected to be visited by a maximum of 8 clients only for conservation reasons.

Securing your permit at least 6 months to the your preferred date saves you the time of hassling to find a gorilla permit especially during the peak seasons June to October and December to February. The demand for these permits is competitive

How to get your gorilla permit

Upon payment for your gorilla trekking permit, we buy the gorilla trekking permit card for your but you must present us your passport details, nationality, Names, date of birth before it is issued by the Uganda Wildlife Authority. We send you a confirmation after collecting the permit and safely keep it for you up to the time when your gorilla trekking safari starts.

When I miss my gorilla safari, can I reschedule my gorilla permit to a new date or refund?

Gorilla trekking permit cards are issued per day and per person. The permit expires on the day when it is not used and cannot be reused at any other time. However, when you advise Uganda Wildlife Authority on the illness that you may have got you may be given a consideration based on the rules and conditions of UWA
