This Gorilla Tracking family was the proprietor of Uganda Gorilla Tracking. Habituation started in 1993 with 12 members led by Ruhondeza the major silverback. He passed away in July 2012 following a vigorous fight with a wild Mountain Gorilla group. And because of his old age, he fought to save his family but finally died in his sleep after sustaining some injuries.
Mubare Gorilla tracking family was first sighted by trackers close to the Mubare hills which are inside the thick Bwindi Impenetrable forest. This group is in the Nothern part of Bwindi called Buhoma. A tragedy befell the group in 2009 has when 3 members died then another adult female died of a fracture on the skull leaving behind an infant who later died too after the mother. Since the orphaned infant could not feed after the death of the mother the infant died from the nest of Ruhondeza.
From the 12 pioneers, Ruhondeza was able to build the family to up to 18 members but before he died, he had only 5 members. This resulted from his luck of training a reasonable successor who would take over his thrown after death. For some time the group was suspended from gorilla tracking after the terrible attack from the wild group. After the death of Ruhondeza, he was succeeded by a strong willed silverback who has managed to acquire more Gorillas making 9 members at the moment. The group is once again open for tracking with seven members that is to say Silverback, 1 black back, 1 Adult female, 1 sub adult and 3 juveniles.
