DAY 2 – Gorilla trekking In Bwindi Forest National Park
Having parked your gorilla trekking gears, head to the ranger station for briefing. Remember to wear a mask and carry a hand sanitiser. Pack all you need for this expedition in a light water proof bag but ensure you pack light too.
Getting to the gorillas requires you to hike some highlands in order to locate them. Moving in this jungle is like locating a hidden treasure on a pirate map. It is a thick forest with numerous trees that have witnessed hundreds of years.
More primates linger the forest all day long like blue monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey, olive baboons, pottus monkeys, L’Hoest, bush babies and so much more
The number of birds that feed and live in the forest is overwhelmingly big. The IUCN has recognized about 90% of the Albertine endemics listed on the red list living in this forest.
Watch out for amazing waterfalls and a network of rivers that make up the ground surface. This all day moist forest regularly has soft ground and soggy because of the regular rains that fall. As a result of the large leaves and huge thick trees, little sun rays penetrate the ground to dry it up.
At last when you locate the gorillas, wait for the guide to instruct you to take any action so that he can establish there mood. Stand about 8 meters away from them and take as many photos as you can.
Take that precious one hour and use it maximum to catch a moment while with the mountain gorillas. Walk back to your lodge to recap with the day’s experience and relax.
DAY 3 – Drive To Kibale National Park
After great moments with the mountain gorillas, head to the chimpanzee haven in Kibale National Park. This is the biggest habituated chimpanzee sanctuary in Africa. This tropical forest is home to thousands of monkey troupes and birds. This busy wild life sanctuary also harbors thousands of wild animals like elephants, duikers, warthogs, wild forest hogs and so much more.
Accommodation: Primates Lodge/ Kibale Forest Lodge/ C.V.K
DAY 4 – Chimpanzee trekking in Kibale National Park
Following your breakfast, head to Kanyanchu station for briefing. Kibale Forest usually has two chimpanzee trekking schedules that is to say early in the morning and afternoon. The ranger guide leads you into the forest following the tails that have been created by regular trekkers.
Look out for other primates that linger the forest like olive baboons, blue monkeys, bush babies, grey cheeked mangabey, red tailed monkeys to mention but a few.
Finally when you locate the chimpanzees, look out for the community. It is under the leadership of an alpha male whose leadership is democratically elected. The females play a big role in this election so potential candidates must do all they can to convince the electorates.
Watch the community of chimpanzees which can be with about 100 member. The chimpanzees also have spy network that look out for intruders that come close to there community.
You have one hour with them but there chances of seeing the gorillas making nests for the overnight or de-nesting early in the morning.
During the drier seasons, the chimpanzees normally feed closer to the ground and the wet seasons usually they feed from tree branches.
Get back to the lodge to relax after an hour with the chimpanzees.
DAY 5 – Visit To Sempaya Hot Springs in Semliki National Park
Get up early in the morning for breakfast and drive to Sempaya Hot springs. These incredible hot springs include the male and female hot springs. They are dominated by boiling geysers with temperatures about 103 degrees centigrade.
