Buhoma gorilla tracking area

This is composed of the biggest number of gorilla families that is to say Rushegura gorilla tracking family, Habinyanja gorilla family, Katwe gorilla family and Mubare gorilla family. Buhoma gorilla area is placed in the northern sector of Bwindi forest in Uganda.

Each of these great gorilla families displays unique and differing entertainment to the visitors. You can never hand pick out the best to trek unless you visit each of them. We all have different tastes and preferences.

Ruhija gorilla tracking area

Ruhija gorilla tracking area is placed on the eastern side of Bwindi forest in Uganda. It hosts a number of gorilla families like Bitukura gorilla family, Kyaguliro gorilla family, Mukiza gorilla family and Oruzogo gorilla family.

Rushaga gorilla tracking area

Placed in the Southern sector of the park is Rushaga gorilla area. It is composed of various gorilla families that is to say, Nshongi gorilla family, Bikingi gorilla family, Bisingye gorilla family, Rwigi gorilla family, Mishaya gorilla family, Bweza gorilla family, Kutu gorilla family.

Each of these individual family has a great story that led to its formation and family members are gorgeous to be with during the one hour.

Nkuringo Gorilla Tracking area

Nkuringo gorilla area is one of the oldest gorilla tracking areas that Bwindi forest hosts. It is made up of Bushaho gorilla family, Christmas gorilla family and Nkuringo gorilla family. It is places in the southern part of Bwindi Forest.

Nyakagezi Gorilla tracking family

Nyakagezi gorilla family is placed in Mgahinga forest park in the south western side of Uganda. It is the only habituated gorilla family in this park. It wonders through the hills of Mountain Sabyinyo, Mountain Muhavura and Mountain Gahinga ranges.

This family of gorillas at times may cross to Rwanda. This is the reason why its gorilla permits are booked according to the availability of the mountain gorillas.

When to book a gorilla tracking safari in Uganda

Gorilla tracking is open all year round you just need to choose your most available time and get your booking done.

Although gorilla tracking can be done anytime, you need to have book your gorilla permit atleast 3 months to the day of gorilla tracking.

This is because of the high demand for the permits throughout the world. What you need to know is that a few permits are released each day for the world to book.

Why few gorilla permits are released for gorilla tracking

Mountain gorillas are entirely vegetarian and so they need to feed on the available vegetation to support there huge bodies. When a big population of visitors is allowed into the forest, they may trample on the foliage destroying the food for the mountain gorillas.

Gorillas are highly susceptible to human communicable infection and so a small population can reduce on the chances of transmitting these infections.

When habituating the gorillas, a small population is used and since they are wild animals, they are accustomed to a small group not the crowds.

Managing a small population while in the wilderness is quite easy and so making it hard to loose anyone. A big population may be quite hard to handle in a vast forest.

The trails that have been crafted out by regular visitors can only handle a small population.

When with the gorillas, you are required to stand at a distance of about 7 meters away from them. It is quite hard to handle when with a big population where everyone wants to get a closer look at what the gorillas are doing.

Dumping of waste in the forest would not be easy to control if the population is not limited.

The UNESCO highly protects the mountain gorillas and they are on the list of the endangered species so they need to be protected in there natural home.

You may also opt to do gorilla habituation which allows you more time with the gorillas. The price for gorilla habituation in Uganda is $1500. You are allowed to be in the presence of the gorillas for 4 hours watching them do there daily activities.
