On arrival at Kigali Airport your driver guide will drive you to Volcanoes National park in Rwanda. This is the home of the mountain gorillas which are some of the world’s endangered primates. The UNESCO holds them like a wild precious treasure as they almost got into extinction before introducing the mountain gorilla conservation campaign.
Check into your lodge and prepare your gorilla trekking gears to encounter the great apes the following day.
Accommodation: Virunga Volcanoes Lodge/ Mountain Gorilla View Lodge/ Kinigi Guest House.
Get ready for your experience with the mountain gorillas without forgetting to wear a mask, carry a hand sanitizertoo. Proceed to the ranger station at ORTPN for briefing. You will be divided into groups of 8 trekkers.
After briefing, you will be led by the ranger guide into the thick forest to start searching for the mountain gorillas. Much as gorilla trekking is the focus of this adventure lots of other primates make your experience in the forest even more interesting.
Some of the primates you may encounter include black and white colobus, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys and so much more. Thousands of wild birds including Albertine endemics spend the biggest part of the day in the forest. The drama in the forest is an actual wild life live documentary.
Expect to have breaks during the gorilla trekking expedition as spending a long time in the mask is not healthy.
Finally as you get closer to the gorillas, you will be asked to change into a clean new mask and hand sanitise before meeting the mountain gorillas. While in front of the gorillas, try to keep a distance of about 10 meters apart from them. Mountain gorillas have about 96% human genes making them susceptible to human infections.
Lets enjoy the mountain gorillas but conserve them too for the future. Take photos and videos to keep as souvenir of your experience with a large family of mountain gorillas different from those in the zoos.
Return to your lodge to relax
