DAY 1 – Drive to Volcanoes National park or Optional Kigali City Tour
On arrival at Kigali airport, your driver guide will pick from Kigali Airport. Depending on your time of arrival, you will drive through Kigali for a city tour. Visit the genocide memorial where thousands lost lives in 100 days of terror.
Drive passed thousands of hills that give a glimmering appearance especially in the night. Visit the Kigali institute of science, the Kandt house, enjoy a lovely cup of coffee at the UTC Center. All this is dependent on the time available.
Continue to Volcanoes National park which is about 1 hour and thirty minutes away. Look through the vehicle windows to treat your eyes to a beautiful sight of lovely rolling hills. This is at times called Africa’s Switzerland.

DAY 2 – Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National park
Get up, put together the gorilla tracking gears, take breakfast and proceed to the ORTPN. You will meet other trekkers and in case you need some trekking items to hire. This is the time.
You will be advised on the status of the mountain gorillas and later subdivided into groups of 8. In case you need a porter to carry your gears, hire one before starting the trek.
You will hike steep slopes since this is a volcanic area. Be observant because a number of animals inhabit this area like the black and white colobus, vervet monkeys, red tailed monkeys, blue monkeys, grey cheeked mangabey and so much more.
A number of birds are residents of this park like handsome Francolin, Rwenzori Turacos, Archer’s Robin-Chat, Dusky and Shelley’s Crimsonwings and so many others. Enjoy the luxuriant forest cover you pass-by
As you draw closer to the mountain gorillas, you will hear them murmuring as if sorting family issues. Listen to the guidance from your ranger guide as he has to first observe the behavior of the gorillas.
Watch the family do its daily activities like playing, feeding, combing the infants if lucky you may witness disciplining.
Take photos for memories and watch the gorillas go on with there life. After an hour, get back to your lodge to relax
DAY 3 – Drive to Akagera Game Park
After breakfast, you will drive to Akagera National park. Enjoy the amazing scenery that you pass by. Take photos as you drive by.
Enjoy a game drive where you may have the chance of seeing animals like the water bucks, bush bucks, lions, buffaloes, warthogs, to mention but a few.
DAY 4 – Game Drive in Akagera National Park
Rise up early for a game drive. You need to take something warm as Rwanda gets cold. Drive through the park where you may get the opportunity to see animals like the bush bucks, water bucks, Kobs, Lions, leopards, buffaloes.
DAY 5 -Drive back to Kigali Airport
Having enjoyed Rwanda’s beauties, drive to Kigali Airport to catch up with your flight back home.

What to Pack for Rwanda Gorilla Tracking Safari
Warm clothes
Rwanda is generally a hilly country with low temperature. You need to carry some warm clothes like long trousers, long sleeved shirt that you can take in the jungle and not afraid of getting dirty.
Tracking boot
The terrain is quite steep and slippery as you trek to search for the mountain gorillas. You need to protect your feet from harmful surfaces.
A Flash-less Camera.
You need to keep memories of your gorilla tracking safari. Take a camera with you to take enough picture and videos of your gorilla tracking experience.
Poncho or rain coat
It may rain at any time of the day so to avoid getting wet, you need a rain gear.
Garden gloves
Sometimes you need to grip on something to move ahead to protect your palms from getting hurt, you need to hold your grip using gloves.
Some Hard cash
Credit cards are not commonly used in Africa so you need to carry some hard cash on you. This will help you purchase some souvenirs or pay for some services rendered. These may not be included in your package.
Tips

How To Book Rwanda Gorilla Tracking Permit
Gorilla tracking in Rwanda requires you to have a permit. You need to buy it from Rwanda Development Boards (RDB) however, the heavy traffic or poor network may make you miss the trek.
At Arch Safaris And Tours, we reserve gorilla permits for our clients. On the day of gorilla trekking, we present the permit for the client to be allowed to see the gorillas.
What to do or not to do during Rwanda Gorilla tracking
Volunteer to stay behind in case you have a communicable infection. Gorillas are susceptible to human infection
Do not litter the forest as this is destroys the home of mountain gorillas.
Do not eat while in front of the mountain gorillas.
When you meet the gorillas, stay with them for just one hour. They are habituated to be in the presence of humans for just one hour.
