Gorilla Habituation Experience Packages

Gorilla habituation Experience is currently happening in southern sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park with at the moment 4 gorilla families open to the public. Gorilla habituation experience is an adventure where maximum 4 tourists accompany a team of researchers to follow a semi-habituated gorilla family.

Four hours of gorilla habituation experience are allowed with the semi-habited gorilla family. Note that the mountain gorillas are still doubtful on human presence and are expected to go into hiding any time.

Each tourists is requested to adhere to the rules of gorilla trekking and other instructions provided by the ranger guide such as showing submission, pretending to chew foliage and more depending on the situation.

Tips To Gorilla Trekking In Rwanda Or Uganda And Gorilla Habituation Experience In Uganda

Book Gorilla Permit: Reserve the necessary gorilla permits in advance to avoid last minute inconveniences. For Bwindi gorilla trekking choose accommodation within or closer to the area of gorilla permit that is Buhoma, Rushaga, Ruhija and Nkuringo.

Pack right For Gorilla safari : Cross check with the gorilla safari packing list so as to carry all necessary items for this gorilla trekking Safari like safari long sleeved shirt, insect repellent, rain proof gears and more.

Physical fitness: maintain some level of fitness before gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation experience. Try to stay healthy and treat any communicable infection before gorilla safari.

Elevation: in case you are affected by change in altitude cross check with your health professional for advise. The average altitude of the areas where mountain gorillas live is about 1160 meters to approximately 2670 meters above sea level

Best Gorilla safari time: Best time for gorilla trekking or gorilla habituation experience is the dry season which is normally June, July, August, September, early October, December and January. Note that gorilla safaris in Rwanda and Uganda are open all year no matter the season.

Time On gorilla safari: time of locating the mountain gorillas is unpredictable with some tourists finding the mountain gorillas before 1 hours while others may take about three quarters of the day. On hour of gorilla trekking and 4 hours of gorilla habituation experience area allowed.

Age limit for gorilla safaris: In Uganda, 12 years and beyond and Rwanda 15 years and over are the age limits for gorilla safaris in either countries.

Arrange for packed lunch: breakfast is eaten too early to last all the time to spend in the jungle so you need to pack some snacks to enjoy during the breaks and packed lunch.

Cost of Gorilla permit For Rwanda and Uganda

At the moment the cost of Rwanda gorilla trekking permit is $1500 for foreign nonresidents, $500 for international residents or other Africans and $200 for East Africans

The Uganda gorilla trekking permits normally costs $800 for international nonresidents, $700 for international residents, $500 other Africans and 300,000shs for East Africans.

Discounted gorilla trekking permits may also be opened to the public by Uganda Wildlife Authority. From 1st April 2026 through May and November the discounted gorilla trekking permits for Uganda will cost $600 for international nonresidents, $500 for international residents and 300,000shs for East Africans.

Note that the availability and extension of period of the cost of discounted gorilla trekking permits for Uganda depends on the authorization from Uganda Wildlife Authority management. Terms and conditions of the discounted gorilla permits also apply.

How To Get To Gorilla Safari Destinations In Uganda Or Rwanda

Road Transport on gorilla safari

Road transport is the main means to get to either Volcanoes National Park in Rwanda and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park in Uganda. Even though public transport is open but the safe of baggage is not guaranteed or even time of arriving at the pack is hard to estimate.

Using private transport to the gorilla safari destinations of Rwanda and Uganda is more comfortable and convenient allowing you to take breaks when desired. The time to take to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park or Mgahinga National Park in Uganda is about 8 to 9 hours excluding breaks.

Time to take from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park is about 2 hours and half to 3 hours.

Air transport on gorilla safari

Air transport saves you the long hours you may take to get to the gorilla safari destinations. Uganda has daily scheduled flights from Entebbe or Kajjansi daily to K ihihi or Kisoro airstrips

Charter flights are open too from Entebbe or Kajjansi for more private travel to the gorilla safari destinations.
